For over three decades his incredible vocal talents and skills have dazzled clients around the globe. He has imaged award-winning radio stations, has voiced a number of major radio and television commercials like the 2003 Super Bowl Gospel Fest and is noted for his versatility, creativity, power, and style that uniquely defines his gift. With his vast knowledge of music, CJ has successfully programmed three formats in radio. He currently hosts and produces his own radio program, “The Big Brother CJ Show” and other original, signature broadcasts which air on terrestrial and internet stations across the nation and reach numerous cities across the globe – several of which are Stellar Award-winning stations.
The Big Brother CJ Show features songs that “change lives and touch lives”, and by bridging songs of unity with songs of purpose, CJ uses his original blends and fuses music from different genres, taking God’s music out of the ethnic box. With his diverse experience in radio, television, stage, film, and music, this multiple award-winning talents have been described as radical, revolutionary, innovative, and cutting edge. CJ began his career as a musician (CJ’s Uptown Crew). As one of the founding fathers of the “Go-Go” movement (a musical sound originating from the nation’s capital), he is a three-time “WAMMIE” (Washington Area Music Association) award winner, has more than 50 sound recordings under his belt, has charted nationally on Billboard’s top 25 (“Movin’ and Groovin’”), and is an NAACP and United Black Fund award recipient.
CJ has also been featured and has starred in a number of films and documentaries alongside award-winning actors. Among such are “The BBC: Welcome to the Go-Go”, Island Film’s “Good to Go/Short Fuse”, “Streetwise”, “Middle Passage n Roots”, “Melodies From Heaven”, “Straight Up Go-Go”, and the 2013 release of “The Legend of ‘Cool Disco Dan’.” CJ and his crew have traveled the world performing for Presidents, military groups on the USO tour, and for various high profile dignitaries and politicians landing him features in books such as Billboard’s “The Beat”, and to host several of his own TV shows. Some of CJ’s artifacts are currently on exhibit at DC’s famed Corcoran Gallery of Art (Smithsonian). CJ’s “king-sized voice” then attracted him into the field of broadcast radio where he broke through various barriers. Starting in the Washington DC area, CJ kicked off the first-ever Sunday morning Christian format for a top station. He relocated to Tennessee where he oversaw a newly acquired Christian radio station and introduced a format that successfully integrated various styles of Christian music and became a model station in the industry. CJ then broke ground to be the first African-American broadcaster in the 25-year history of Christian radio in the Tri-City Tennessee region, and during his career, he interviewed the biggest stars in music and entertainment. Because of the success of his unique program format, CJ was honored for being an industry trailblazer with the 2012 EnSound Music Achievement award.
He is heard on over 50 stations and a major radio network, and his recognizable voice is stamped on various networks and affiliate stations that he images across the country. CJ’s heart-melting smile and joyous laugh are the signature weapons that he utilizes to win hearts and souls as he unashamedly speaks of God and His love. His personal presence is truly inspirational. What makes his talent so unique? He believes that radio is “theatre of the mind.” CJ is now gearing up to introduce a collection of syndicated radio shows designed to empower and inspire. He is also laying foundations for a life documentary and preparations for his highly anticipated return to the recording industry.
